Intercultural Language Education and Globalisation: Current Practice and Trends – International Specialist Seminar

16-17 June 2016, Budapest Business School

In an increasingly globalised world of intercultural dialogue and international business, Higher Education is facing challenges such as communication barriers, cultural stereotypes, prejudices, identity conflicts and language deficiency which compounds the lack of skills to interact successfully. Local contexts of cultural and linguistic homogenisation in European countries such as Hungary and the Czech Republic would require strategies to motivate teachers and students to go beyond their own cultural comfort zone. Intercultural Communication Competence (ICC) is a key competence to deal with the social and political changes resulting from European globalisation; it is also a key competence for student mobility and effective integration in competitive job markets

Although the need for the acquisition of Intercultural Communication Competence is clearly stated in the EU language policy, the complexity of the concept leads to multiple interpretations and solutions across European higher education institutions. Sharing knowledge of the practices is essential for further innovation.

The ICCAGE project (Intercultural Communicative Competence – A Competitive Advantage for Global Employability) is a transnational project which aims at addressing these needs, by creating innovative ICC course activities and educational materials, including telecollaborative practices, for students of business, management and tourism, using English and Spanish as lingua franca.

 CALL FOR PAPERS

The Bologna Declaration, the CEFR and beyond …
Foreign languages in higher education: current state, strategies and future challenges

An International Colloquium organized in conjunction with APROLÍNGUAS

[The Portuguese Association of Foreign Language Teachers in Higher Education]

16th, 17th & 18th June 2016, Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto

Following the implementation of the Bologna Declaration and the application of the Common European Framework of Reference within the context of foreign language teaching and learning in higher education many changes were certainly brought about at the level of course programmes, methodologies and modes of evaluation (or have they?).

These two relatively recent documents, the consultation of which is unavoidable in both teaching and research, have triggered (or not) the need for the creation and use of new technologies and teaching materials, a reflection on classroom management procedures, as well as a redefinition (active or passive) of the career structure of higher education teachers.

In this context, APROLÍNGUAS invites colleagues, who are affected by these complex issues, to enroll in this International Colloquium and propose a paper in their respective areas of interest in relation to teaching and research in foreign language.

BOLONHA, QUADRO EUROPEU & DEPOIS?
As línguas estrangeiras no ensino superior: balanço, estratégias e desafios futuros

Colóquio internacional APROLÍNGUAS

[The Portuguese Association of Foreign Language Teachers in Higher Education]

[The Portuguese Association of Foreign Language Teachers in Higher Education]

[The Portuguese Association of Foreign Language Teachers in Higher Education]

BOLOGNA, REFERENZRAHMEN & WAS DANN?
Universitärer Fremdsprachenunterricht: Bilanz, Strategien und Herausforderungen

Internationales Kolloquium APROLÍNGUAS

[The Portuguese Association of Foreign Language Teachers in Higher Education]

Forschungsgebiete einzureichen.
